Last Friday, May 8, the National Weather Service reported that Las Vegas officially hit 100 degrees for the first time in 2026. The average day that southern Nevada first sees triple digits is May 24, so this year was a couple of weeks early. The earliest on record was May 1, 1947, and the latest, believe it or not, was June 30, 2023. Yesterday, the record high of 103 set in 1960 was broken when the thermometer hit 104 and today, we might tie the record of 104 (1996), but it’s doubtful it’ll be broken. We’ll see. Tomorrow’s high is predicted to be 102 and after that, the current heat wave eases off a bit, with high temperatures in the upper 90s.
