On Wednesday, a local player struck it big at the Palms, winning more than $1 million while playing, of all games, baccarat. We can’t remember the last time we wrote about a seven-figure jackpot and baccarat in the same sentence, if ever. The player made a $5 bet on the base game and a $5 side bet on the progressive, which he proceeded to hit. The Palms press release, which all the local media copied verbatim, is decidedly light on the exact mechanics and the photo didn’t show the winning hand, at least not that we could see. But we’re trying to track down the details and we’ll keep you posted.
