A report on 8NewsNow, the local CBS affiliate, warns about a rash of car break-ins in parking lots throughout Chinatown. The thieves pull up close to the target car, break a window, steal valuables, and are gone “within 20 seconds.” The police have received 597 reports of car thefts in Chinatown so far this year, nearly double the number of other precincts, including Summerlin and downtown. They’ve made 17 arrests. Business owners in the Chinatown plazas strongly advise that patrons bring luggage and smaller bags into the stores and restaurants with them.
