It took Zippys, the beloved Hawaiian restaurant, six years from the initial announcement to launching its first restaurant in Las Vegas, then less than three years to open another four locations around the city. Did they expand too fast? Could be, if the news that the chain is closing its Hualapai Way branch on June 28 is any indication. The press release is what you’d expect: “The decision was made after careful consideration and is a strategic move as part of the companys continued growth plans.” In addition, Zippy’s “is continuing to explore other locations in the Las Vegas area and in other states.” We’re not holding our breath for another Vegas location anytime soon, but other states could be in the offing; Zippy’s original location here was its first outside of Hawaii, blazing the trail for mainland expansion.
