The beloved Sigma Derby mechanical horse-racing machine is moving. It’s not going far, just down Fremont Street to the Golden Gate from the D, where it’s been in residence for around 15 years. In 2022, when the D celebrated the machine’s 10th anniversary, Derek Stevens explicitly stated that when he bought Fitzgeralds in 2011 and created the Vintage Vegas second floor, he went looking for a Sigma Derby machine, found one that had reportedly been out of service for more than a decade, had it restored, and installed it at the D. This Sunday will be its last day at the D. It will be moved in a ceremonial procession next Tuesday starting at 10 a.m.; everyone at the parade will get a free commemorative T-shirt (while supplies last). It will be back in operation at the Golden Gate on Friday at 4 p.m. This Sigma Derby device is listed as the last remaining one of its kind in the world.
